Molly Robertson Neves is an artist and elementary art specialist who currently teaches at Summit Academy Elementary in Draper, Utah. She absolutely loves teaching art and finds herself lucky to be surrounded by so many enthusiastic, budding artists. Molly has taught at the elementary level for four years. She and her students have collaborated to create several short films, large murals, explorations of place and identity, as well as co-constructed projects that explore various contemporary themes. Molly’s students have exhibited their artwork in various locations throughout the community of Draper, as well as statewide traveling exhibits.
Molly believes that as students engage in the art-making process, they find methods that allow them to express themselves visually. As students learn technical skills and use of tools and media, they can open doors to participate in conversations about art. She believes that art is a way for students to ask questions and make meaning as they explore ideas through the visual arts, and places great emphasis on learning to look at and discuss artwork as well as to create tangible works of art.
Molly graduated from Brigham Young University in 2009 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Printmaking and Art Education. Molly has exhibited her artwork in numerous venues in Utah with Women in Ink and Saltgrass Printmakers, and has participated in various artwork exchanges and exhibits locally, as well as in Texas and New Zealand. Her print publications include Arts and Activities and Insight magazines. Molly continues to create art in her home studio using various mediums. Her love for art education prompted her to pursue a Masters in Art Education program at Brigham Young University in 2011. She is currently working on her thesis and plans to graduate with a Master's degree in December 2013.
Molly is an active member of the Utah Art Education Association and the National Art Education Association, and enjoys collaborating with other art educators. As a native of Salt Lake City, her other interests include skiing, mountain and road biking, waterskiing and spending time with her husband, Tyler.
